Limerick Lake - 2025 News

NEWS UPDATE: October 21, 2025

A lot cooler day on Monday.  The high temp for the day, 58F was at midnight.  Mid-afternoon was right around 50F and it cooled off quickly after sunset.  We did manage to get around 3/4 inch of badly needed rain.  Everything is covered with a thick layer of frost Tuesday morning with the temp right at the freezing mark.  The GTA forecast is already calling for rain this morning, but it does not reach here until early afternoon.  Hope that forecast is accurate as I have some outdoor chores to do this morning.  Once this storm moves in it looks like it will linger for as long as 4 days.  Close to 100% chance of rain this evening and about a 50/50 chance of rain each of the following days.  Definitely an unsettled period.  Hopefully we get a significant amount of rain out of it.

Comet viewing the next few nights.  Comet C/2025 R2 (SWAN) passed close to earth on the 20th and is now heading back out into space.  Its orbit takes about 15,000 years so if you miss it now, you probably will not see it next time around.  It is visible approximately where the sun went down just after dark.  Comet "Lemon" is near the Big Dipper and is best seen early in the morning.  Both are visible if the sky is dark with the naked eye.  SWAN will be visible for several more days, but the 20th was the brightest.

FOCA sent out another $3 discount for the fall Cottage Life show.  Code to enter on the ticket buying website is: SPEAKERS3  The discount is good through this Friday.  The show is the weekend of Nov. 14-16.

The Snowmobile show is this weekend, October 24-26 at the International Center.  I made a lot of friends and gained a number of new customers in the years I exhibited there. A long, hard, tiring weekend, but also a lot of fun.

Please remember that we are still on summer burn rules.  No daytime fires.  The summer restrictions may be kept in place later than November 1 if drought conditions persist.

The October Limerick Council meeting is on the 27th (not the 20th) due to schedule conflicts with two of the councilors.

Members of the LWRA Board accompanied the local licensed trapper to the creek leading to Dixon Lake.  He was quite knowledgeable on the problem and solutions that he can offer.  Hopefully this leads to a long-term solution for access to Dixon Lake.  More details to follow.

The Rogers / FOCA special pricing plan for internet service is $60 per month this year.  (unless you have a Rogers phone in which case it remains $50 per month) Even at the $60 price it is the best internet service for us on the lake. It appears they throttle the 5G connection to 40MBps down, and 10MBps up.  That is plenty of bandwidth for any single-family use.   The power outage this week is the first time that tower has stayed active.  Guess Rogers finally remembered to put gas in their generator.

The dump is on Winter hours.  It is open Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday and holiday Mondays from 11AM to 4:30PM.

2026 fishing regulations are not yet posted.  If things remain unchanged, lake trout season will open January 1.  Bass season should open June 27, 2026 and close November 30. The Limerick chain of lakes has a "slot size" for lake trout that MUST be returned to the lake if caught.  It is roughly 16 to 22 inches.  It is also a "one line" lake when ice fishing.  The Limerick chain of lakes are at the very south end of zone 15.
