Limerick Lake - 2026 News

NEWS UPDATE: October 18, 2026

Nice and sunny on Saturday, but it was the coldest afternoon so far this fall.  The mid-afternoon temperature was a chilly 47F.  It took until around noon for the morning snow to melt.  Sunday morning is a few degrees warmer.  No new snow, but lots of frost and dense fog around. The forecast for today and the coming week is quite nice for this time of year. Lots of sunshine and temperatures that hover around freezing in the morning and reach seasonal levels in the afternoon in the mid to upper 50F range.

After 2.5 inches of rain this past week the lake is back up to where it was on October 5.

Had a first time in 70 years on the lake experience on Saturday afternoon.  A bull elk exited the forest and jumped into the lake with a big splash.  It swam straight out for a while, then turned toward the west shoreline.  But there was something on that shoreline that it did not like.  After approaching the west shore 3 times, and swimming in circles for a few minutes, it reversed direction and headed north-east.  Lost sight of it still swimming in that direction.

The list of candidates for the municipal election is posted on the municipal website.  (limerick.ca) Advanced on-line voting begins on Monday the 19th.

Here is a statement of position from incumbent mayor, Kim Carson:

The cottagers association, LWRA, is a registered 3rd party advertiser and as such can endorse and advertise for candidates of their choosing. They have endorsed Kim Carson for mayor, Jan Mackillican, Shawn Pack, and Kevin Charlton for council.  I was part of the committee that came up with those endorsements and agree with them 100%.  Check out the association website at lwra.ca for further info.

Dump is on winter hours through April 2027.  11AM to 4:30PM, Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday and holiday Mondays.  (fires/burning are still on summer restrictions through October 31)

There is an upcoming (October 28th) provincial webinar on the effects of road salt on drinking water and waterways of Ontario.  Follow this link to register:

The 2026 fishing regulations are on-line.

The fishing seasons and regulations for this area (zone 15) remain the same as recent years.  They are on pages 104-114 of the regulations book.  Bass started on June 27 and ends November 30.  Trout started January 1 and ended September 30 with the slot size of 16 to 21 inches to be returned to the lake.  It is a one-line lake for ice fishing. Trout will most likely open once again on January 1, 2027 for ice fishing.
