Attended the December Limerick Council meeting on Monday the 15th. Not too much to report as the year winds down. The municipality and council made both a financial and food donation to the local food bank. The landfill will soon have separate recycling bins for those of us with consumer/residential recycling and for commercial/business recycling. No impact on the municipality financially that way. The by-law officer and clerk are working to modernize by-law 2016-15 which regulated shipping container use in the municipality. The new by-law will be before council in February. (no January council meeting) Council has asked staff to continue to investigate how the municipality can accept harvested milfoil to be their contribution toward the eradication efforts on the various lakes. Hopefully we can keep milfoil out of Limerick. It is a real problem in neighboring lakes. Council decided to stay neutral on the Conservation Area amalgamation plans by the province.
The Sunday night into Monday morning is the peak of the Ursids meteor shower. Meteors appear to originate in the vicinity of the little dipper.
We are now on winter burn rules. Fires are permitted 24/7. (some of the signs around the municipality have not been changed from "No Day Burning" so that can be confusing.
All of our local North Hastings trails have re-appeared on the OFSC ITG map. Unfortunately, the few in our area that had shown yellow (open) are now closed again after our recent warm spell. The snow on the east side of our cottage that had been about 10 inches deep on Wednesday is now just bare lawn. That inch of warm rain overnight Thursday into Friday really melted the snow pack.
The Rogers / FOCA special pricing plan for internet service is $60 per month this year. (unless you have a Rogers phone in which case it remains $50 per month) Even at the $60 price it is the best internet service for many of us on the lake. It appears they throttle the 5G connection to 40MBps down, and 10MBps up. That is plenty of bandwidth for any single-family use. I am coming up on the end of my 2nd full season using that service and would grade it an A-. If the service keeps working through power outages in the future I will up their grade to A+.
The dump is on Winter hours. It is open Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday and holiday Mondays from 11AM to 4:30PM.
The 2026 fishing regulations were posted on-line on December 10. Copy and paste this URL into your browser to navigate to them:

The seasons and regulations for this area (zone 15) remain the same as 2025. Bass starts June 27 and ends November 30. Trout starts January 1 and ends September 30 with the slot size of 16 to 21 inches to be returned to the lake. It is a one-line lake for ice fishing.
