Limerick Lake - 2026 News

NEWS UPDATE: October 06, 2026

The morning showers forecast for Monday passed just south of here around 9AM  The sky cleared and a brisk north-westerly wind blew the rest of the day making it feel quite chilly all day. In spite of the warm lake water the Tuesday morning temperature has fallen to 28F. Plenty of frost around.  Looks like a sunny, windy and cool day ahead.  Clouds and a chance of rain move in tonight bringing warmer temperatures for the remainder of the week.  At this point the holiday weekend weather looks ideal for cottage closing chores.  Temps around 60F with a mix of sun and clouds.

The list of candidates for the municipal election is posted on the municipal website.  The LWRA held a Board meeting recently and after much discussion voted to support Kim for mayor, and council candidates Jan Mackillican, Shawn Pack, and Kevin Charlton.  On-line voter registration is over.  Call the municipal office (613-474-2863) during normal business hours to verify if you are registered to vote.  Advanced voting begins October 19th.

Here is a statement of position from incumbent mayor, Kim Carson:

I had a chance to talk issues with candidate Kevin Charlton recently.  Seems like a great guy who became active in community events and organizations (including becoming a volunteer fireman) as soon as he moved to the area.  He was/is a victim of a certain large landowner in the municipality as he is part of a hunt camp so is very familiar with those issues..

Landowners get to vote for four candidates.  In addition to the 3 candidates backed by the LWRA, my personal recommendation for a 4th vote is a toss-up between Grace Hamm and Selena Bruni.  Grace has been on council for this past term and has demonstrated an even hand and thoughtful decisions.  She is active with the library board among other community endeavors.  Selena has attended a number of council meetings as a spectator and is quite active with the Steenburg Lake Community Association.  She is familiar with issues of importance to both permanent and seasonal residences.

Dump is on winter hours through April 2027.  11AM to 4:30PM, Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday and holiday Mondays.  (fires/burning are still on summer restrictions through October 31)

There is an upcoming (October 28th) provincial webinar on the effects of road salt on the drinking water and waterways of Ontario.  Follow this link to register:

The 2026 fishing regulations are on-line.

The fishing seasons and regulations for this area (zone 15) remain the same as recent years.  They are on pages 104-114 of the regulations book.  Bass started on June 27 and ends November 30.  Trout started January 1 and ended September 30 with the slot size of 16 to 21 inches to be returned to the lake.  It is a one-line lake for ice fishing.
