Limerick Lake - 2026 News

NEWS UPDATE: July 03, 2026

News updates are back for the month of July.  Survived the recent heat wave in the city, but have to admit that we did skip our usual 9 holes this week.  A bit warm on the links.

A very pleasant 82F with 63% humidity as I write this on Friday afternoon.  Should be a mix of sun and clouds with about a 50/50 chance for rain or thunderstorms both Friday and Saturday afternoons.  The air dries up a bit on Sunday and the rest of the coming week look to be nice, July days.  Sunshine, light winds and seasonal temperatures.

A bit surprised to see that the lake has gone up a few inches since last week.

Always get questions this time of year, especially from campers, about campfire and cooking fires during the day during summer months.  Here is a link to my interpretation of O.Reg. 207/96 sections 8.1 through 8.4

Activity on the Dixon Lake access issue continues.  The LWRA received a letter from the MNR on July 3 assuring us that there is action happening on the subject and ASKING us to NOT mess with the creek in any way, shape, or form for now.  The enforcement people need to keep an eye on the waterway without us interfering.  The correspondence also mentions that they are working in conjunction with the appropriate federal ministries also.

Transport Canada is digging into our pocketbooks this year.  Most of us now have to renew the registration of our boats every 5 years.  Pretty much applies to every boat that has an engine of 10hp or more regardless of age.  More information here:

https://tc.canada.ca/en/marine-transportation/vessel-licensing-registration/licensing-pleasure-craft/apply-manage-pleasure-craft-licence-pcl/apply-manage-pleasure-craft-licence-pcl

There is a $250 fine if you get pulled over for a safety inspection this season and your registration is not up to date.

Whether renewing or becoming a new member of the Limerick Waterways Ratepayers Association (LWRA), you can do it easily on their website at: lwra.ca.  Dues are $50 per year per cottage.  Please support the organization that works on many issues of importance to the lake community.  The canoe races, AGM and picnic will be Saturday, August 1st. The traditional sailboat race will be Sunday, August 2, at 2:00PM.

Summer burning rules came into effect on April 1.  Fires under 2 meters in diameter are permitted 7PM to 7AM only through October 31st.  Check the municipal website for information regarding total fire bans during the summer should that become necessary.  There is also information there on how to apply for a permit for a legal daytime fire through the summer months. (conditions allowing)

The dump is on summer hours through August 31.  It is open Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday and holiday Mondays from 11AM to 6:00PM.

The 2026 fishing regulations are on-line.

The fishing seasons and regulations for this area (zone 15) remain the same as recent years.  They are on pages 104-114 of the regulations book.  Bass started on June 27 and ends November 30.  Trout started January 1 and ends September 30 with the slot size of 16 to 21 inches to be returned to the lake.  It is a one-line lake for ice fishing.
