Limerick Lake - 2026 News

NEWS UPDATE: October 04, 2026

A beautiful autumn day on Saturday.  Lots of sunshine, calm wind, and an afternoon high of 65F.  Perfect for this time of year.  Clouds have started to move in overnight and should continue to get thicker as Sunday goes by.  60% chance of rain by evening.  The rain should end early Monday followed by much colder temperatures.   Tuesday morning is forecast to be our first hard freeze of the fall with morning temps in the mid 20F range.

Attended a white party charitable event in Bayside Friday evening.  Even bumped into some fellow Limerick Lake cottagers there.  A lovely event raising funds for the new Belleville YMCA.  Yes, true to form, the 2nd song the DJ played once the auction was over and dancing started was "YMCA."

The Limerick Estates project has possibly been sold.  The expected closing date is October 21.  The current developer asked for on OLT continuance until later next year.  They were granted until mid-January.  (the day after the Tuesday hearing scuttlebutt is that there is no sale and this is another delaying tactic) It was disheartening to find out the existing owners failed to pay their newly hired lawyers several months ago and that zero progress has been made on reaching any compromise.  For those following, the excuse of new lawyers was used last winter to ask for a continuance, which was granted.  This has been going on since the late 70s.  Same MO, over and over.

Dump is on winter hours through April 2027.  11AM to 4:30PM, Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday and holiday Mondays.  (fires/burning are still on summer restrictions through October 31)

The list of candidates for the election is posted on the municipal website.  The LWRA held a Board meeting recently and after MUCH discussion voted to support Kim for mayor, and council candidates Jan Mackillican, Shawn Pack, and Kevin Charlton.  On-line voter registration is over.  Call the municipal office (613-474-2863) during normal business hours to verify if you are registered to vote.

Here is a statement of position from incumbent mayor, Kim Carson:

I had a chance to talk issues with candidate Kevin Charlton after the September Council meeting.  Seems like a great guy who became active in community events and organizations (including becoming a volunteer fireman) as soon as he moved to the area.  He was/is a victim of a certain large landowner in the municipality as he is part of a hunt camp.

Landowners get to vote for four candidates.  In addition to the 3 candidates backed by the LWRA, my personal recommendation for a 4th vote is a toss-up between Grace Hamm and Selena Bruni.  Grace has been on council for this past term and has demonstrated an even hand and thoughtful decisions.  She is active with the library board among other community endeavors.  Selena has attended a number of council meetings as a spectator and is quite active with the Steenburg Lake Community Association.  She is familiar with issues of importance to both permanent and seasonal residences.

There is an upcoming (October 28th) provincial webinar on the effects of road salt on the drinking water and waterways of Ontario.  Follow this link to register:

Whether renewing or becoming a new member of the Limerick Waterways Ratepayers Association (LWRA), you can do it easily on their website at: lwra.ca.  Dues are $50 per year per cottage.  Please support the organization that works on many issues of importance to the lake community.

The 2026 fishing regulations are on-line.

The fishing seasons and regulations for this area (zone 15) remain the same as recent years.  They are on pages 104-114 of the regulations book.  Bass started on June 27 and ends November 30.  Trout started January 1 and ended September 30 with the slot size of 16 to 21 inches to be returned to the lake.  It is a one-line lake for ice fishing.
