A mostly ugly day on Tuesday. Light rain started around 7AM and lasted for a few hours. Thunderstorms then passed by in the mid-afternoon. Lots of blinking of the lights. One outage of about 10 seconds, but this time they stayed on. Wednesday morning is still overcast. A chilly west wind already blowing. It looks like the day will be a bit nicer than Tuesday, but still on the below normal temperature side. The recent rain and cooler nights have the water temperature falling from 80F a few days ago, to just 72F this morning. (3 feet deep near the end of my dock) Thursday and Friday look to be nicer, although remaining cool. The entire coming seven days are forecast to be below normal temperature with a few mornings getting down into the upper 40F range. July 22 is statistically the hottest day of the year.
News from the Monday council meeting: A new dump management by-law passed. It changes almost nothing but clarifies many definitions and fees. A link to the important stuff is further down in this news post. There is some confusion about registering to vote. There was a somewhat mis-leading news piece on CBC last week that did not clarify who might get dropped from municipal voting roles. In Limerick Twp. virtually no one should get dropped from the 2022 registration list. To double check your voter registration status, go to registertovoteon.ca and follow the instructions. There was lengthy discussion about 911 response on the lakes. This issue has been clear as mud since at least 2006 when I bought the marina. After a near fatal debacle in 2007, (2 1/2 hours to get a heart attack victim off the lake) I worked with Hastings County Emergency Services and the marina would get a call from 911 dispatch to let me know that an emergency service was on their way. We would be ready at the launch ramp with transportation. (or call a trusted friend or neighbor to be at the launch ramp if I was not here) That system seems to have faded away with the new contracted dispatch system that 911 uses now. Hopefully the municipality can get something figured out again. Building permits and their status are now posted on the municipal website. On a much happier note (sarcastically) the Greenbush Cemetery has been expanded. The ministry that regulates cemeteries has approved additional plots for sale. Evidentially, they are "selling like hot cakes." My dad used to say that "Everyone was dying to get it."

This from the municipality regarding Dixon Lake access:
The waterway is open to small, motorized boats. Feel free to use it and enjoy Dixon Lake. If you are harassed while using it, contact the OPP at their non-emergency number 1-888-310-1122. The Township will continue to work collaboratively with the appropriate agencies to address concerns and provide updates as additional information becomes available.
The OLT hearing on ending the Limerick Estates project scheduled for July 22 has been postponed by mutual agreement between the parties until September 29th. There is still hope for a negotiated settlement. From what I have heard there has been no actual on the ground work happening, although I did see a truck exiting the project site from a civil engineering company recently. The Municipality is seeking a meeting with Hastings County attorneys (representing us) for a clarification on the state of the negotiations.
. Whether renewing or becoming a new member of the Limerick Waterways Ratepayers Association (LWRA), you can do it easily on their website at: lwra.ca. Dues are $50 per year per cottage. Please support the organization that works on many issues of importance to the lake community. The canoe races, AGM and picnic will be Saturday, August 1st at 9:30AM, all being held sequentially at what is known as Frasers Beach. (169 Limerick Lake North Shore) The traditional sailboat race will be Sunday, August 2, at 2:00PM starting near the Coxwell cottage, (202 Limerick Lake South Shore)
Summer burning rules came into effect on April 1. Fires under 2 meters in diameter are permitted 7PM to 7AM only through October 31st. Check the municipal website for information regarding total fire bans during the summer should that become necessary. There is also information there on how to apply for a permit for a legal daytime fire through the summer months. (conditions allowing)

The fishing seasons and regulations for this area (zone 15) remain the same as recent years. They are on pages 104-114 of the regulations book. Bass started on June 27 and ends November 30. Trout started January 1 and ends September 30 with the slot size of 16 to 21 inches to be returned to the lake. It is a one-line lake for ice fishing.
