Limerick Lake - 2026 News

NEWS UPDATE: October 16, 2026

A fairly nice day on Thursday in between the two rainstorms.  It stayed sunny with light winds most of the day.  Afternoon high in the upper 50F range.  Rain moved in overnight and it has rained .52 inch.  The lake went back up another 1/2 inch and is up about 1.5 inches this week.  They say this storm will move out mid-day Friday followed by gusty northerly winds.  The temperature tonight is predicted to fall into the upper 20s.  Lots of sunshine in the forecast for later this weekend and into next week with seasonal temperatures.

While it was sunny and calm, it was a good day to change spark plugs in my boat.  4 cylinders.  Can change the top 3 plugs in about 5 minutes.  The bottom one is a different story.  The project ends up taking an hour or so by the time enough of the engine is disassembled to reach that 4th plug.

Had an update from a neighbor on the Bell fiber optic project.  Several steps still to go.  Cottagers will be asked by Bell if they want to hook up their cottage to the new pedestals installed this summer.  The hookup is free, so no reason to say no.  Saying yes does not commit you to taking service. Then it is estimated that sometime next summer crews will work their way around the lake to do the fiber terminations in each pedestal.  The preliminary target is to have the system lit by late summer 2027, but lots of variables.

The list of candidates for the municipal election is posted on the municipal website.  (limerick.ca) On-line voter registration is over, but the municipality has put voter verification back online.  Advanced voting starts October 19th.

Here is a statement of position from incumbent mayor, Kim Carson:

The cottagers association, LWRA, is a registered 3rd party advertiser and as such can endorse and advertise for candidates of their choosing. They have endorsed Kim Carson for mayor, Jan Mackillican, Shawn Pack, and Kevin Charlton for council.  I was part of the committee that came up with those endorsements and agree with them 100%.  Check out the association website at lwra.ca for further info.

Dump is on winter hours through April 2027.  11AM to 4:30PM, Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday and holiday Mondays.  (fires/burning are still on summer restrictions through October 31)

There is an upcoming (October 28th) provincial webinar on the effects of road salt on drinking water and waterways of Ontario.  Follow this link to register:

The 2026 fishing regulations are on-line.

The fishing seasons and regulations for this area (zone 15) remain the same as recent years.  They are on pages 104-114 of the regulations book.  Bass started on June 27 and ends November 30.  Trout started January 1 and ended September 30 with the slot size of 16 to 21 inches to be returned to the lake.  It is a one-line lake for ice fishing. Trout will most likely open once again on January 1, 2027 for ice fishing.
